History Of Charlotte's Rib

Charlotte's Rib gets its name from the dynamic star of St. Louis' daytime television from 1947 to 1969, Charlotte Peters. This is most fitting, since its famous sauce recipe is from her private collection.

Charlotte's Rib gets its energy from Pat and Herb, Charlotte's daughter and son-in-law, ever since they founded their first resterauntin Kirkwood, in 1977. In 1978, they established a new restaurant in West County. Herb, a food service veteran, with a radio program of his own to his credit, took his special brand of expertly smoked meat and trademark sauce to the 1981 American Royal Barbeque Cook-Off in Kansas City and walked away with both the First and the grand Prize for his barbeque pork. In 1982, Pat's chili recipe was an award winner at the Regional Chili Cook-Off in St. Louis. As their restaurant flourished, the demand for their sauce grew. In 1985 they began marketing their original sauce, and have since added many variations, the spicy, western and local sauce. Now with a relocation of our family business, the next generation carries on the tradition.
Charlotte's Rib gets its reputation from its customers who return time after time and are never disappointed with the consistently high quality of the homemade fare. It has also been recognized nationally in books devoted to exeptional barbeque, "Real Barbeque." If enjoying the sauce at home barbeques isn't enough, patrons have options of dining in, carrying out, or enjoying its catering service.
